Medical Musings, Health Hypotheses & Therapeutic Thoughts
Summer can be such a diverting time of the year; the days are longer and finer, if we choose, we can stretch our leisure time well past our usual mid-year hours. We may feel inspired to rise with the sun and exercise or spend the later afternoon drinking up the last rays of sun relaxing in the backyard or as we sit by a large window. Usual aches or niggles could have been kept to a minimum as we’ve probably been a bit more active. No wonder; movement is the best medicine! Earlier this February it has felt more like the wheel of the year is turning quicker, with the crisp mornings and plenty of rain. I’m a lover of the beach, nothing’s better than heading down to the Mornington Peninsula, taking my underwater camera out on an early morning dive, swimming with the local sea creatures. 28/2/2019 Post-Pregnancy Problems Part I, or, the less joyful things that can come with your Bundle Of JoyPostpartum PainNOTE: Due to the subject matter, some of the language and images in this blog post may be a bit... ...earthy. I imagine you are reading this because you or someone close to you is pregnant, in which case you are probably not going to be weirded-out by descriptions of basic biological processes and structures. If you are, I would recommend care with choice of your reading matter! This is an immense topic, which we will have to deal with in several blogs, if my past history of wordiness is any indicator! Pain after giving birth (postpartum, in the medical speak) is influenced by a number of factors.

11/2/2019 Common Causes of Knee Pain Pt IIIFinally, we will consider some of the common causes of lateral knee pain. You may remember from the last blog that lateral means 'away from the mid-line of the body', so this is pain on the outside of the knee. Many of the structures on the outside of the knee are similar to those on the inside, so they do not need much further consideration here (if you haven't yet, I strongly recommend that you read the first few posts about the knee, as they provide some much-needed background and context) These include: Lateral meniscal injuries e.g. tears
I love this video. I share it with many of my patients, especially those who suffer from chronic low back pain, but also just as a good illustration (literally!) of many of the points I bang on about during sessions.
So without further ado, I will let Dr. Mike Evans do his thing... |
