Low Back Pain
The big one.
It has been estimated that the lifetime prevalence of low back pain is 65-85%. That is, up to 85% of people will suffer from low back pain during their lifetime. Only around a quarter to a third will suffer from disabling back pain at some point, but the bad news is that chronic back pain seems to be increasing. One study done in North Carolina found that chronic back pain (over three months, and affecting daily activities) increased from around 4% to just over 10% between 1994 and 2006. |
Low back pain is common and potentially debilitating, but the good news is that there is plenty that can be done about it. Given the high chance of recurrence of back pain, having good management strategies in place is crucial.
